Power Failure To Vortex Head

In the event of an electrical failure to the vortex console, and the battery back up fails then the emergency hand crank must be used to provide manual power.

  • Inform the surgeon that your battery back up has failed. Clamp the venous line followed by the arterial line.
  • Switch the pump speed to zero and the console off.
  • Remove the vortex head and replace it with the emergency hand crank. This device is installed onto the console in place of the pump and locked.
  • The vortex head is placed on this crank. The device is cranked in the direction indicated by the arrow and the RPM is read on the meter at the top of the crank.
  • Handcranking must be continued until extra battery backup arrives or electrical power is restored.
  • Send arterial blood sample to check the blood gas status.
